The history of the Appomattox field discovery is discussed in more detail. This discovery played a key role in the entire history of this project, becoming the trigger for the transition to an unprecedented pace of exploration for ultra–deep horizons in ultra-deep water (in total – over 10 km).

Prospects for further EA activity for Norflet formation in the Gulf of Mexico considered in the final part.
<kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>Gulf of Mexico</kwd><kwd>Norflet formation</kwd><kwd>Appomattox discovery</kwd><kwd>aeolian</kwd><kwd>ultra-deep deposits</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="kk"><kwd>Мексика бұғазы</kwd><kwd>Норфлет тастопшасы</kwd><kwd>Аппоматокстің ашылуы</kwd><kwd>эолдық тау жыныстары</kwd><kwd>тереңдегі ойнауқаттар</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>Мексиканский залив</kwd><kwd>свита Норфлет</kwd><kwd>открытие Аппоматокс</kwd><kwd>эоловый</kwd><kwd>сверхглубокие залежи</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front>

<back><ref-list><ref id="B1">1.<mixed-citation>Cockrell A.
